We have a new friend at our house. I saw her picture on facebook. She was on the euthanasia list in the Orange County Shelter. Something about her face just tugged at my heartstrings. She has been found as a stray and brought to the shelter August 25, 2013. They thought she was about 15 years old. They had named her Jazzy. We believe she was dumped after having been used as a breeder. I had her transported up to Sacramento and September 5, 2013 she arrived to begin her new life. We believe she had never been on grass before because she would not go out onto the grass. I picked her up and sat her on the grass and she lifted her paws as she slowly walked around like it was all new to her. She had a rough go for a while. She wanted love so badly but she was so frightened. Even now, a year and a half later, she will come to be petted, wagging her tail, but when you pet her, her tail slightly tucks and she stiffens ever so slightly. It has gotten much better for her, but I marvel at how brave she is to keep pushing out of her confort zone to love and be loved. One day after she had been with us for several months, she was sleeping on the couch. I glanced over at her and she looked so darn sweet. Without thinking I reached out and touched her and she jumped as high as the back of the couch. I felt terrible for scaring her. She has come a long way since then.
